Kufstein Operetta Summer
Performances at the fortress
It has been more than ten years since the Operetta Summer brought Kufstein Fortress to life. Since then, it has become a popular and successful part of the Tyrolean cultural calendar. In 2021, the Operetta Summer Kufstein is looking forward to a true classic. The musical “Evita,” written by Tim Rice with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and choreography by Enrique Casa Valga, tells the story of the Argentinian President's wife Eva Perón, who was known as Evita. Eva Perón was born in 1919 in Los Toldos, a province of Buenos Aires, and by the time of her early death 33 years later was a controversial legend. The musical tells the story of her social and political rise in Buenos Aires, amongst the historical events in Argentina between 1934 and 1952. The musical “Evita” was performed for the first time in London in 1978 and has won numerous awards. The songs “Don't Cry For Me Argentina” and “You Must Love Me” are particularly famous. A film version of “Evita” in 1996, with Madonna in the lead role, also made the musical more well-known.
With its historic ambience, Kufstein Fortress provides an impressive backdrop for this world-famous musical. Together with famous soloists, an outstanding ballet and an excellent orchestra, the performances become an unforgettable experience. The mostly weatherproof roofing of the Josefsburg in front of the south wall offers a unique setting for this overwhelming sound experience.
